Abstract :
Because the low insulation strength of distribution lines, virtually all strokes that terminate on the phase conductors of a distribution lines will result in flashover. However, in some cases, shield wire may provide some measure of protection from these direct strokes. Distribution lines are also subjected to over voltages induced by strokes that terminate adjacent to the line. In fact, most of the flashovers that occur are cause by these induced voltages. This paper gives a review on existing condition on unimproved distribution lines in Bogor and some improvement that has to be made. Bogor is well known as a highest lightning activity area in Indonesia, with over 300 thunderstorm days a year
