Abstract
Due to the advent of computer technology image-processing techniques have become increasingly important in a wide variety of applications. This is particularly true for medical imaging such as Computer Tomography (CT), magnetic resonance image (MRI), and nuclear medicine, which can be used to assist doctors in diagnosis, treatment, and research This paper presents a novel method to extract salient regions in images using low-level features of luminance and color. The method is fast, easy to implement and generates high quality saliency maps of the same size and resolution as that of the input image. The novelty of our approach lies in finding high quality saliency maps of the same size and resolution as the input image and their use in segmenting whole objects.
