Abstract :
Electro-optical properties of PDLC fabricated by doping Ag nanoparticles have been investigated in this article and it is shown that this novel material exhibits a unique E-O response characteristic that is sensitive to frequency modulation of applied voltage. The optical switching made of PDLC doping with Ag nanoparticles could be switched by modulating frequency of operating voltage square waveforms (FM) from 0-700 Hz instead of conventional amplitude modulation (AM). Nano Ag doped PDLC also shows shorter response time to burst square voltage waveforms than undoped sample and the deviation of two rise times can be as high as 50%. Thus, the present FM-PDLC device doping Ag nanoparticles may hopefully provide a completely new E-O device system with respect to lower frequency and voltage.
