Abstract :
The main motivation for the CIEL project is to enhance the capability to handle large input powers (in the range of 20-25 MW) and to control the particles over long pulse durations (up to 1000 s). A toroidal pump limiter is shaped by actively cooled high heat flux components using a braze free bonding technique between carbon composite tiles and a CuCrZr heat sink structure. For particle pumping a cryomechanical pump is under development. A water cooled shielding system reduces drastically thermal leaks from radiating plasma power losses to the vacuum vessel. A bolted armor tile concept is used for the guard limiters. Design and test results of the different components are reported
