Abstract :
We report mechanically induced long-period fiber gratings (LPFGs) coupler made by pressing two unjacketed single mode fibers between two periodic grooved plates. The peak coupling efficiency of the mechanically induced LPFGs coupler is ~23 dB at resonance wavelength of 1555.34 nm. The coupler is simple, inexpensive, erasable and reconfigurable.
