  • Abstract
This article details the software and hardware background of our developed PetriCounter software solution targeted as a replacement for commercially available Petri dish counters. The mentioned semi-automated software solution has proven to be invaluable in several scientific and research endeavors where manual methods have resulted in either large human error or are too tedious to accomplish using traditional methods. The proposed algorithms may also be used in other areas of image manipulation and feature extraction, such as the localization of circle-shaped superficial body or intraosteal markers in oncology patients for the purpose of aligning two different axial systems (e.g. CT/MRI machine image output and its correlation with therapeutic machine).
