Abstract :
Summary form only given, as follows. The authors describe a simulation study of the pyloric network of the lobster stomatogastric ganglion. They demonstrate that a few simple activation functions are sufficient to describe the oscillatory behavior of the network. The aim is to determine the essential mechanisms necessary to specify the operation of biological neural networks so that we can incorporate them into connectionist models. The model includes rhythmically active bursting neurons and long-time-constant synaptic relations. In the process of doing this work, various models and algorithms were compared. The authors have derived some connectionist learning algorithms which have proved useful in terms of ease and accuracy in model generation.<>
