Abstract :
Application of a fuzzy logic control (FLC) approach to the design of variable structure systems (VSS) is presented. Rule-based controllers which utilize fuzzy set theory have the advantage of not needing a mathematical description of the plant. This feature of FLC is combined with properties of the sliding motion in VSS: control independence, reduced computational burden, etc. FLC and VSS are compared and combined. Simulation results demonstrate the performance of fuzzy VSS with different degrees of uncertainty.<>
