  • Abstract
The Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden is the first full-size Chinese or "scholars" garden built outside of China, and is located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Built in April, 1986, the garden was built by Suzhou craftsmen that finished the design and prefabricated work in Mainland China, and then shipped all parts including traditional Chinese wooden buildings, garden rocks and lots of architectural materials to Vancouver, for assembly on the construction site. The Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden is an embodiment of traditional Suzhou "scholar\´s" garden in ancient China. The garden acts as an oversea emissary that spreads Chinese traditional cultures to people from all over the world. The experience of designing, building, and maintaining a Chinese classical garden oversea (Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Garden) has an important value to other oversea Chinese classical gardens.
