Abstract :
Optical methods for the measurement of current and voltage in high-voltage (HV) environments have been attracting more and more attention in the recent years. A novel electronic current transformer (ECT) with optical transmitting link and optically powered technology has been designed for metering or protection purposes. The structure of the ECT is described in detail in the paper. An ECT prototype has been designed and constructed complying with the IEC60044-8 and IEC61850-9-1 standard. Type tests show that it meets the 0.2 accuracy requirement.
