Abstract :
The aim of this work is to emphasize the role of some characteristic length on the determination of effective medium properties. As a consequence, experimental characterization of the materials should be carefully carried out. We have studied a two-dimensional plane of randomly distributed conducting sticks. Considering the electromagnetic response (reflection and transmission coefficients) we expect for that system, a striking dependence of the response vs. the sample size. We report on the theoretical results we have obtained in the quasistatic and in the nonquasistatic limits. The results have been obtained by Monte-Carlo simulations on stick systems with a determining length T
