Abstract :
An input and output ripple analysis of AC chopper that is useful in filter design is presented in this paper. The analytical expressions of input and output ripples of single-phase and three-phase AC choppers are derived. The results are used to design the required input and output LC filter. As the unique values of inductance and capacitance of the filter cannot be determined based only on ripple specification, an additional criterion based on minimum total reactive power is proposed. Simulated and experimental results are included to verify the derived expressions.
