Abstract :
Many network management stations are designed statically to accomplish a set of defined functions taken from object IDs. As the implemented MIB objects for under-development WiMAX tend to grow, redesigning a deployed network manager would occur many times. Therefore, providing a more generalized and customizable network manager would become an alternative solution. In this paper, we design a customizable Network Management Station (NMS) utilizing Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) to manage the early deployment of WiMAX system. We include full optional parameters for agent registration, MIB object registration, agent-object mapping, monitoring scheme, functional category, and admin login. Agents and objects can be added, modified, and deleted, and each action will be recorded in history once committed. We have tested our developed NMS successfully in monitoring the packet traffic flowing through our experimental WiMAX network. The result shows that it can accommodate many types of MIB objects from WiMAX network elements and gives appropriate measurement outputs.
