Abstract
Provides background information on the theory and applications of neural networks, and define the role of a simulated neural network package ANNIE (Artificial Neural Network Integrated Environment) which the authors developed in order to support their theoretical studies with empirical investigations and to prototype applications. Then they discuss the development of ANNIE, including a description of the user environment and the validation procedure. Finally, they present results of their application prototyping activities in the areas of communication system signal detection and robot manipulator control
