Abstract :
A hybrid method is presented for the rigorous analysis of horn antennas. The interior horn taper structure of arbitrary cross-section is described by the fast FE/mode-matching method combined with the generalized scattering matrix technique. For the exterior horn problem including the radiating aperture, an EFIE formulation is used where the eigen-vectors of the waveguide taper and the basis functions of Rao (1982) are chosen as basis functions. Results for a conical horn show good agreement with measurements. The flexibility of the presented method is demonstrated with the example of a conical ridged waveguide horn.
