Abstract
NOAA AVHRR data were used to estimate a percent vegetation cover of grasslands in Mongolia. In this study, estimation model of percent vegetation cover was developed on the base of the vegetation indices derived using spectral reflectance measurement at ground simulating AVHRR data. The relationships between percent vegetation cover and vegetation indices such as NDVI, SAVI, MSAVI, and TSAVI were evaluated by applying a second order polynomial regression technique. The proposed method was tested to evaluate an accuracy of the estimate. The estimation model based on NDVI and TSAVI were applied to AVHRR data to produce monthly green vegetation cover images of Mongolia
