Abstract
Much work has been done in improving the efficiency of production systems, but single PS models are not suitable for applications in distributed problem solving. To address such multiagent behaviours problem solving the authors present a distributed asynchronous production system model (DAPS), where multiple production systems (PSs) co-operate to solve a problem. In DAPS the PSs run highly asynchronously, thus reducing the bottlenecks in synchronous models; PSs communicate by sharing working memory elements. The authors present methods for distributed match and execute phases, propose a modified select strategy, and indicate applications in the domain of distributed planning
