Abstract :
The progress of the GRIN polymer optical fiber (GI POF) for high-speed telecommunication is reviewed. Gigabit data transmission for several hundred meters from visible to 1.3-/spl mu/m wavelength was experimentally enabled by the low-loss perfluorinated (PF) polymer base GI POF. We describe an improvement in the thermal stability and long-term reliability of the GI POF.
