Abstract :
The application of artificial ground freezing method in coastal areas is becoming more and more widespread, but soils in coastal areas have high salt content. Presence of salt weakens the mechanical strength of frozen soil. Moreover, salt leads to freezing point depression and further diminishes the dimension of frozen soil wall. Based on the test data of soil in the Shanghai Yangtze River Tunnel Project and a mechanical model, this paper discusses the adverse influence of salt in frozen soil structure. Achievements and conclusions of this paper could be of guiding significance for freezing project in highly saline soils.
