Abstract
Assistive technology so far has been focusing on promoting greater independence for people with disabilities by enabling them to perform tasks on a personal basis. For certain areas such as cognitive deficits, requirements for dual interface development must address the needs of target users as well as their caregivers. In this paper, we provide a location-based guiding and tracking service for people with mental illness in public transit system to help them travel from home to their workplace independently. Meanwhile their caregivers can monitor them in a nomadic or static way. Due to the lack of line-of-sight GPS signal in the area of underground mass rapid transit system, the WiFi signals are adopted for user locating. This service is implemented in collaboration with a supported employment program set up for people with severe mental illness.
