Abstract
The authors propose an efficient routing algorithm for sea-of-gates cell generation on a dense gate-isolated layout style. This layout style is a difficult one for routing, because only one vertical routing track per one P/N pair is allowed. The key point for obtaining a complete routing is preventing some routes from blocking others. A routing algorithm is described based on a simple routing model in which such a blocking can be easily detected and avoided in the global routing phase. About 87% out of 174 cells in the library have been successfully routed, which will reduce a great deal of manual effort
