Abstract
Bandwidth-efficient modulation formats for applications in DWDM-systems are motivated and investigated. Two approaches, namely duobinary and single-sideband modulation are considered in detail both theoretically and experimentally. We compare these formats to conventional binary NRZ modulation with respect to various parameters of the optical channel, i.e. dispersion, Kerr-nonlinearity, channel-interference, PMD, and implementation effort
