Abstract :
With the recent advances in high power semiconductor technology, control of active and reactive power in power transmission lines has been made more reliable and faster. The general name for these devices is flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS). In this paper, a unified power flow controller (UPFC), which is one of the FACTS devices, is analyzed and simulated. The analysis is based on its power flow control and power oscillation damping capability in power transmission lines. Also, a control system was designed for the UPFC and optimum parameters for the control system were examined by a simulation package called Matlab-Simulink. The simulated results and the performance test of the system were verified by a PC-based hybrid simulator
