Abstract :
Our investigation is focused on the measurement of the electrical properties of a polymeric material in view of its possible use in the power transformer industry replacing Kraft paper insulation. In this report, thermal ageing tests at 140 and 130°C of polymethyl pentene insulation and Kraft paper insulation were carried out in an ageing reactor. Then, both aged and new samples were subjected to partial discharges and breakdown voltage measurements. The chemical stability of the material and Its compatibility with mineral oil were examined by gas chromatographic measurement. Also permittivity and dielectric losses measurements versus frequency were studied in the investigation
