Abstract
This survey paper focuses on the security of hyper visors in the cloud. Topics covered in this paper include attacks that allow a malicious virtual machine (VM) to compromise the hyper visor, as well as techniques used by malicious VMs to steal more than their allocated share of physical resources, and ways to bypass the isolation between the VMs by using side-channels to steal data. Also discussed are the security requirements and architectures for hyper visors to successfully defend against such attacks.
