Abstract :
A description is given of the network computing architecture (NCA), an object-oriented framework for developing distributed applications in a heterogeneous computing environment. The network computing system (NCS) is a portable implementation of that architecture that runs on Unix and other systems. The object-oriented approach is examined. The network interface definition language (NIDL) is then introduced and discussed. Network data representation is considered. The NCS NIDL compiler, the location broker, and the NCA/RPC protocol and NCS implementation are discussed.<>
