In the ancient Western society, urban sculpture was often regarded as one symbol of the country or nation. Compared with China´s ancient urban sculpture, however, the Western´s contains rich secularity. First of all, in ancient Greece, portrait was taken as the center of urban sculpture´s expression; secondly, in ancient Roma, the depiction object of urban sculpture was converted from the gods to the emperor and the theme of historic events was selected by producers abundantly; finally, in Renaissance periods, the sponsor groups evolved from country or city-state into the new nobility. Secularity of the Western´s urban sculpture opens the door for the emergence of 20-century´s environmental art.
