Abstract
A modified double crossbar switching network composed of directional couplers is proposed. The traditional double crossbar switching network has not very good signal-to-noise ratio characteristics, especially when N is large. In this paper some modifications in the architecture of this type of switching networks and in the control algorithm are proposed. These modifications result in better SNR characteristics. It is shown that the proposed network has the best SNR characteristics of all already known photonic switching networks composed of directional couplers
