Abstract
Progressive interest of exploitation of wind energy will lead to the installation of GW rated wind farms (WF) in near feature. Large wind farms integration to the power system motivates the studies about the effectiveness of wind power on the ability of power system to supply the demand. An algorithm is proposed determining that to what extent increasing the wind farm installed capacity could improve the adequacy indices of power system. The effect of wind farm expansion on the adequacy indices is studied via an analytical approach. The profiles of adequacy indices for a test system will be studied while the installed wind farm is undergoing expansion and the characteristics of the improvement for these indices are compared with an expansion program for conventional generation system. The results strongly suggest that pure wind generation expansion is not adequate and power system shall need to conventional generation units for preserving the power system adequacy indices.
