Abstract
A two-dimensional nonlinear time-stepping finite-element method for the simulation of short-circuits in synchronous generators is presented. To simulate rotor motion in the forward direction, stator phase bands are moved backwards. The electromagnetic torque is calculated by using the Maxwell-stress-tensor method. The computed results of the electromagnetic torque and current waveforms are shown. The influence of different modeling techniques of damper windings on the calculated torque waveforms is presented
