Abstract
Special observation of the GMS imagery was performed at the MSC (Meteorological Satellite Center) to watch a typhoon for the interval from 1 to 19 August 1997. The authors use three successive images of the northern hemisphere from 03:31 to 04:15 UTC throughout the period. A simple physical model is applied to the visible imagery data in order to estimate the incident solar radiation at the ground in 0.01° grids. The estimate of hourly incident solar radiation has been improved at 63 of the 67 validation points by using three images. It has been found that the increase of observation frequency results in better estimate of the hourly incident solar radiation
