Abstract :
Open networking is becoming widely discussed and at least partial IN open networking is now considered to be technically a realistic possibility. Significant enhancement in competition in end-user value added services in New Zealand and in other countries is considered to be the likely result from the implementation of open networking. The authors discuss open networking (inter-networking) as associated with two goals: 1) standardisation of the services available at the interconnection (and hence provision of a competitive market in interconnection services) and (2) enhancing the capabilities available at the interconnection (and hence enabling greater innovation in end-user services)
