Abstract :
In this paper, we will discuss the potential of Lithium Ion Battery (LIB) technology for Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system in data centers. Traditionally, Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) batteries have been used in data centers in order to provide back-up power but recent emphasis on higher energy efficiency, environmental friendliness, and space planning have indicated the need for a new storage battery technology. While LIB technology is often referred to as the next alternative that meets the aforementioned requirements for replacing VRLA batteries, its merits have not yet been analyzed and discussed in quantitative detail. This paper will address these issues by providing the method, analysis, and key findings for a LIB solution from actual projects that were implemented and has been operating successfully.
