Abstract
The cognitive radio network (CRN) is a promising technology to cater the limitations of the existing wireless networks and manage the diverse applications of the users in densely populated areas such as smart buildings. However, the optimal operation of the CRN relies on the stability of control channel. The random appearance of the primary users (PU) is one of the key challenges in the design of a control channel. In this paper, we propose PU activity aware an optimized control channel selection (OCS) scheme to provide a stable and collision free environment to the CRs present in a smart building for the management of their control traffic. The OCS scheme is modeled using the knapsack problem (KP) and obtained the optimal solution using dynamic programming approach (DPA). Simulation results show that proposed scheme outperforms the existing schemes in terms of collision rate, switching delay and power consumption.
