Abstract :
Manufacturing operations have undergone a sea-change during the last few decades. Many of the hi-tech and hi-precision operations in manufacturing operations have robot to carryout operations that are either routine, highly complex and critical, hazardous or of high-precision nature. Robots basically have sensors using which the operations are manipulated as required. It is also possible to network a set of sensors or robot to provide or plan a sequence of industrial operations, thus providing larger benefits to manufacturing operations. Such operations often involve time critical operations for providing increased maneuverability and efficiency. This paper makes a study on the present developmental status and details the design features of Self Organizing Sensor Networks in production systems. The goal is to define a model-based development process for large sensor-actuator networks with a focus on wireless communication.
