Abstract
A new algorithm, which is used to detect the continuous wavelet transform ridges of the asymptotic signals based on the least energy gradient, is presented. Instantaneous frequency of the analyzed signal, even with white noise, can be efficiently extracted from these ridges. In particular, specific examples are given which demonstrate the performance of this algorithm is good. Theoretical analysis and results of numerical simulations show that the instantaneous frequency information can be extracted precisely when the Morlet wavelet is adopted
