Abstract :
This paper reports a novel MAC protocol answering the need for an efficient transport of information on the MF-TDMA air interface of a satellite network adopting the ATM technology. The MAC is based on variable-rate DAMA for real-time VBR traffic coupled with a connection admission control algorithm, exploiting statistical multiplexing of VBR sources, and a pre-emptive buffer management policy. The main result is a high bandwidth exploitation as well as the QoS guarantee to each class of service
