Abstract
Turbo-detection applies the “turbo-principle” to iterative equalization and decoding of data transmitted via frequency-selective channels. The performance of turbo-detection strongly depends on the ISI (intersymbol interference) introduced by the modulator and the waveform channel. In order to achieve higher data rates within GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications), 8-PSK modulation will be used for future GSM services called EDGE (Enhanced Data for GSM Evolution). The pulse shaping filter introduces strong intersymbol interference reducing the reliability of data detection. In this work it is shown how turbo-detection can be adopted to 8-PSK modulation. Furthermore, simulation results demonstrate the benefits of turbo-detection for EDGE in Rayleigh fading environments
