Abstract :
Since channels in a radiocommunications system are a scarce resource, efficient assignment and reuse techniques are required to improve the overall efficiency. Channel borrowing has been proposed to allow relief of hot spot or temporary high traffic cell overload. In this paper we show an improvement in the channel borrowing scheme that improves the system performance by sharing part of the channels among different sectors of a cell. This pooling of the available resources lowers the call blocking probability compared with traditional borrowing schemes mainly at low and moderate loads of about 10% and also at system saturation. It is also shown that for given cluster shapes, it is not required that a channel is blocked or its power reduced in isofrequential cells. Results obtained by means of discrete simulations are presented to support these statements
