Abstract :
The author describes the development of an inline automated production process that encompasses a master control/arbitrator computer system networked to a zero-setup, flexible, automated assembly line with real-time process control feedback. The line is capable of running a lot size of one and utilizes just-in-time material procurement to minimize floor stock. This automated assembly process can take advantage of computer-aided design (CAIS)-generated machine data to minimize new product introduction lead times for power supplies
