Abstract
Modelling of the sea surface emissivity (SSE) in the atmospheric infrared window (8-13 micron) has received increasing attention lately, largely because of its importance in radiatively remote sensing of sea surface temperature (SST). Applications of these modeling results are abundant. Verifications of these results, on the other hand, are rare. Several authors have suggested additional mechanisms that were not considered in early studies. It remains to be seen which model is closer to reality. In the present paper, the authors briefly review the computation and observation of SSE. A unique method for verification is then proposed and the results reported
