Abstract :
Nowadays along with the appearance of Real-Time Communication in Web-browsers (RTCWeb) the demand for building an RTCWeb conferencing service (RWCS) arises. There are two approaches for conferencing services: client-server model and P2P model. The client-server model may cause a bottleneck problem at web server when there are many conferencing services running simultaneously. In this paper, we suggest applying P2P model in RWCS as a solution to avoid bottleneck point at web server. Recent overlay control mechanisms in P2P-based conferencing service existed many unnecessary re-negotiation procedures among participants when there was a participant joining or leaving the conference or there was the change in participants´ bandwidth capabilities. RWCS needs to reduce or avoid these unnecessary negotiations to mitigate the delay at users´ perspective in receiving media streams providing that the negotiation procedure between RTCWeb-compatible browsers causes a considerable delay. As the result, we design a new overlay control mechanism for P2P-based RWCS: Circle-Mesh overlay. The proposed overlay in coordination with dynamic multicast trees for distributing the media streams in the conference reduces the unnecessary negotiation procedures to maintain a good experience for users.
