Abstract :
The application of digital signal processors to video telephone and video conferencing, two multimedia applications of ISDN which are currently under development, is discussed. A codec using the standardized algorithm for color picture transmission, called the Joint Picture Expert Group (JPEG) algorithm, is shown. Techniques for standardization of voice/sound coding are described, as is broadband ISDN (B-ISDN). Multimedia service examples such as HDTV and networkcasting are briefly discussed.<>
