Abstract
The national IVHS program consists of six interrelated application areas: (1) advanced traffic management systems (ATMS), (2) advanced traveler information systems (ATIS), (3) advanced public transportation systems (APTS), (4) advanced vehicle control systems (AVCS), (5) advanced rural transportation systems (ARTS), and (6) commercial vehicle operations (CVO). These diverse applications anticipate a wide range of new technologies and a remarkable variety of commercial opportunities. IVHS applications will require both the development of brand new systems and products, as well as the innovative adaptation of existing systems and products from other applications. This paper presents an overview of the national IVHS program, and describes general commercial opportunities in each of the IVHS application areas
