Abstract
A 1-Mb content addressable ROM (CAROM) with a variable-length match function is proposed. The device has four new characteristics: the operational mode, the modified NAND-type memory cell, the simple AND-logic circuit (ALC), and the improved serial priority encoder circuit. Large capacity and high retrieval performance are achieved by these new characteristics. Simulation confirms that the retrieval cycle type is 60 ns/page and the encoding cycle time is 50 ns. The circuit is designed with a 1.0- mu m single-poly double-metal CMOS process.<>
