Abstract :
Estimates of the direction of arrival and location of radio signals are based on concepts that are well understood, all of which involve the processing of signals received on an array of antenna sensors. The selection of signal processing equipment, i.e. the system architecture, has been traditionally a trade-off between the system complexity (cost) and the system performance. With recent developments in commercially available Digital Signal Processing (DSP) technology, the system architecture for Direction Finding and Emitter Location has been reevaluated and redesigned using DSP techniques. This has resulted in a new architecture with a much better performance vs. cost ratio then was previously achievable, as well as new features previously not available
