Abstract :
This paper presents an innovative and integrated scheme for the identification of an individual physical object (e.g., a single product item) through a networked computer system (e.g., an intranet or the Internet). An object in the world, for instance a computer chip, a computer, an office desk, a car, and a parcel package, can be tagged with a radio frequency identification (RFID) transponder holding a global identification code (GIC). On one hand, the object tagged with a GIC code is uniquely identifiable worldwide. On the other hand, through the networked computer systems, the information on the GIC identifiable object will be available from the services provider specified by the GIC code. By taking advantage of the enabled Internet Technologies and wired worldwide networks, the pertinent object information can be directly accessed and retrieved everywhere and at any time, meeting the needs of customers in the future e-world.
