Abstract :
The paper investigates the framework within which methodologies are defined and used in a methodology independent OO CASE tool, MOOT. OO Meta-models of Methodology and Model are derived and used as building blocks from which new are defined. A new object oriented language, SSL (Semantic Specification Language), is developed to allow the specification of the semantics of the models, underlying process and the various documents supported by a methodology. Methodologies described in SSL are compiled to a platform independent, binary, byte-code representation and executed on a virtual machine by an SSL interpreter. SSL and the role of the SSL virtual machine and interpreter in MOOT are discussed
