Abstract :
Advances in multimedia technology and the growing popularity of Internet has driven designers to deploy new technologies in cellular systems in order to increase their capacity as well as to improve the performance. One promising solution is to combine ad hoc networks and cellular networks by designing a cellular system that can support multihop transmission. These systems are called Multihop Cellular Networks (MCNs). In this paper we suggest a model considering path loss and shadowing to measure and compare the consumed energy in TDD-CDMA single-hop and multihop cellular networks. Unlike previous studies that only consider the effect of environment modeling parameters, we investigate a comprehensive system including inter-cell and intra-cell interferences as well as different types of service requests. We compare the results of single-hop and multihop schemes for different traffic scenarios and also study the impact of hardware energy consumption on total consumed energy per link.
