Abstract
Electromagnetic compatibility is a major problem in mobile communications. In this paper, we analyse the phenomena of electromagnetic wave scattering by obstacles present in the communication path. Here the scattering model consists of an infinite cylindrical conductor near an infinite conducting plane. This scattering problem involving the conducting plane can be exchanged with that of two elliptic cylinders, using the theory of images. Expansion of fields in terms of Mathieu functions is used to analytically describe the scattered field. To apply the boundary conditions, we have used, in the analysis, the addition theorem of Mathieu functions. We obtained an exact solution for the present problem, and the near fields are numerically computed for different parameters
